The project aims to establish a stable, permanent, and replicable setting and pathway for people with mental disabilities and social distress, focusing on sailing due to its transformative and therapeutic power. It will take place near Marina di Pisa and will create an experiential program for individuals with mental disabilities and social distress aboard two sailboats. Participants will engage in sailing trips and creative workshops on land. Participants will create an individual educational project and a final report. |
Target Groups:
Minors with social distress, hosted in residential facilities. The direct beneficiaries, residents of the partner structures, will include 8 people with mental disabilities (with a particular focus on adults with autism spectrum disorders) and 12 individuals with social and psychological distress (including minors, unaccompanied foreign minors, minors from disadvantaged or criminal backgrounds, and individuals in addiction recovery programs).
Innovation:
Use of sailing as an educational and transformative tool.
The unique approach of this program to learner’s activities presents a unique opportunity for other mobility programs to integrate practical experience for disadvantaged learners. Not only through, sailing, but adopting similar methodologies which are based on the transformative element of practical experiences, other organisations can integrate their mobility offers to provide a more inclusive learning experience.
