The IMAJINA project, developed in 2018 in Marseille by the associations Eurocircle and Une Terre Culturelle, aimed to enable young NEETS from the city’s priority neighbourhoods (Marseille) to develop their professional and soft skills through preparation for departure (1 month), a 2-month work placement in Germany and a two-week training course on their return.
The themes are varied: as far as possible, the associations find a work placement that matches the young participants’ interests, thanks to the support of the German organisations responsible for hosting them.
Target Groups:
Young NEETS from the city’s priority neighbourhoods (Marseille) – 18-25 years old.
Special support required:
- Information about the program:
The associations developed a partnership with the Missions Locales, which are responsible for guiding and helping young NEETS between the ages of 18 and 25. The Missions Locales thus had all the information they needed to inform future participants.
- Preparation for departure:
Preparation for a whole month (4 weeks), 35 hours a week. On the programme: German lessons, non-formal activities to build cohesion and prepare for interculturality, and more professional workshops focusing on writing CVs and other tools, and on professional posture.
- Support during the placement:
A German organisation was responsible for on-site monitoring, accommodation, payment of mobility grants and, above all, support for their successful integration in the host country.
- Training on return:
A two-week training course focused on developing the skills acquired during international mobility and on future opportunities available to participants.
Innovation:
- International mobility
- Enhanced support before, during and after your move
- Professional experience adapted with participants hobbies
Although this project is good practice, it was the result of a proactive approach on the part of the funders (the Bouches du Rhône Prefecture and the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs), which made it possible to finance exceptionally intensive support for this type of project.
The practices put in place were effective and could be reused, but co-financing will be necessary.
