Trail Project

Active GenerAction

This pilot project focuses on preparing young people with fewer opportunities for international mobility. The project, called “Active GenerAction,” consisted of seven local preparatory workshops aimed at building intercultural skills, active citizenship, and overcoming social, linguistic, and psychological obstacles before participating in a youth exchange in Turin, Italy, with 35 participants from 5 countries.

Target Group:

The target group included 6 young people aged 17 to 21 from a disadvantaged neighborhood in Marseille, facing economic difficulties, social problems, migration backgrounds, and geographic isolation.

Sending Country: France

Hosting Country: Italy

Mobility Duration: 24.08.2025 – 04.09.2025

Challenge to Inclusion:

A key challenge was securing the young people’s commitment to the preparation schedule.

Solution to Inclusion

Solutions to enhance inclusion involved co-designing the workshops with the participants, fostering group responsibility, linguistic support (English and Italian), and active engagement with intercultural sensitivity. Having a known social worker mentor involved throughout provided emotional and psychological support. Activities addressed stereotypes, identity, communication, and active citizenship using non-formal, motivational methods. The preparation emphasized adaptability with contingency plans based on participant engagement.

Innovation lies in combining local preparatory learning with international mobility, ensuring experiential and reflective learning. The project utilized digital tools like the TRAIL app and incorporated real-time mentoring and flexible scheduling.

Impact includes developed cultural, linguistic, and social skills, improved self-confidence, and successful mobilization of all prepared participants for the international youth exchange. Lessons emphasize communication clarity, tailored engagement, and ongoing evaluation to foster inclusion effectively for youth with fewer opportunities.
