TRAIL Network: A Community for Inclusive Mobility
The TRAIL Network is a European community of adult education organisations committed to advancing inclusive learning mobility for disadvantaged learners. Emerging from the Erasmus+ project TRAIL – Transition to Accessible and Inclusive Learning – the network brings together sending and hosting organisations who aim to make mobility opportunities more accessible, learner-centred, and competence-oriented.
The TRAIL Network promotes a practical approach to inclusion in KA1 mobility, guided by a shared set of quality principles. Organisations that complete the TRAIL self-assessment and demonstrate inclusive practices can display the TRAIL badge on the PROVIDE platform, helping learners and partners identify mobility offers that are designed with inclusion in mind.
Building on this shared commitment, the TRAIL Network acts as a growing alliance of educators and institutions working to improve access, visibility, and quality in adult learning mobility across Europe.
- The Mission
- The Approach
- Learn and be Inspired
The TRAIL Network exists to promote inclusive learning mobility in adult education by connecting organisations that are committed to making mobility opportunities more accessible, supportive, and competence-oriented for disadvantaged learners.
Our mission is to:
- Encourage transparency and quality in mobility programmes through the use of the TRAIL quality criteria and self-assessment tool
- Recognise and promote inclusive mobility offers through the TRAIL Badge on the PROVIDE Platform
- Create a space for exchange and visibility, where organisations can share practices, learn from one another, and identify inclusive partners
- Support a shared understanding of inclusion, accessibility, and learner-centred approaches in KA1 mobility
The TRAIL Network is not a formal association but an open, evolving community built on shared values and practical commitment to inclusion.
The TRAIL Approach is a practical framework to support organisations in providing inclusive and competence-oriented learning mobility for disadvantaged adult learners. It is built around a structured set of quality criteria, grouped into six key areas:
- Course Planning and Co-Design – Programmes anticipate diverse needs and involve learners in shaping content.
- Pre-Mobility Preparation – Learners receive tailored support to prepare emotionally, practically, and socially.
- Inclusive Course Delivery – Activities are delivered in ways that support participation, accessibility, and emotional regulation.
- Post-Mobility Integration – Learners are supported to reflect on their experience, reconnect with their peers or community, and take next steps.
- Competence-Oriented Learning and Validation – Learning is focused on transferable competences, with inclusive assessment and recognition.
- Diverse Learning Modalities – Content, interaction, and reflection are offered in multiple formats to suit different abilities and learning styles.
These criteria are implemented through the TRAIL Self-Assessment Tool, which helps organisations review and improve their readiness to send or host disadvantaged learners. Organisations that meet the TRAIL quality criteria can apply to receive the TRAIL Badge, which can be displayed on the PROVIDE Platform. This allows others to recognise mobility offers that are designed to be inclusive and accessible.
The TRAIL Approach does not impose a rigid model. It offers a clear but adaptable structure that helps organisations gradually improve their inclusive mobility practices—based on what works in real-world contexts.
The TRAIL Network offers access to practical resources that support organisations in improving their inclusive mobility practices — whether you’re just getting started or looking to refine existing offers.
